The School of Engineering of the HES-SO Valais-Wallis is looking for an:

Academic Associate UAS in Machine Learning (80-100%)

This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge machine learning techniques, with a primary focus on deep learning for multimodal alignment (2D-3D) and speech processing. The position may also include teaching responsibilities.

Position description:

• Conduct research and development in machine learning, with a focus on deep learning and multimodal alignment (2D-3D)

• Take part in regular project meetings and contribute to the advancement of the academic community at the HEI

• Collaborate with faculty members and other researchers on research and innovation projects

• Participate in teaching activities, including tutoring and grading

Selection criteria:

• Master's degree or higher in computer science, machine learning or a related field

• Proven experience in machine learning. Experience in deep learning and computer vision is a strong advantage

• Excellent programming skills in Python and data-intensive programming. Good knowledge of PyTorch is a strong advantage

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

• Effective communication skills and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently

• Proficiency in English (min. B2 level in both written and spoken communication) is required. Operational French (approximately B1 level) is an advantage for informal daily interactions and participation in teaching activities

Employment: 80-100%

Place of work: Sion, hybrid work possible

Starting date: 1 February 2026 or tbd

Duration: 24 months

Ce poste offre une opportunité unique de travailler sur des techniques de pointe en machine learning, avec un accent particulier sur le deep learning appliqué à l'alignement multimodal (2D-3D) ainsi qu'au traitement de la parole. La fonction peut également comporter des responsabilités d'enseignement.

Votre mission:

• Mener des activités de recherche et de développement en machine learning, en particulier dans le domaine du deep learning appliqué à l'alignement multimodal (2D-3D)

• Participer régulièrement aux séances de projet et contribuer au développement de la communauté académique de la HEI

• Collaborer avec d'autres chercheurs et chercheuses dans le cadre de projets de recherche et d'innovation

• Participer aux activités d'enseignement, notamment à l'encadrement pédagogique et à l'évaluation de travaux et d'examens

Votre profil:

• Diplôme de master ou supérieur en informatique, en machine learning ou dans un domaine similaire

• Expérience confirmée en machine learning. Expérience en deep learning et en computer vision est atout

• Excellentes connaissances en programmation Python et en data-intensive programming. Une bonne maitrise de PyTorch est un atout

• Solides aptitudes analytiques et de résolution de problèmes

• Aisance à travailler tant de manière indépendante qu'en équipe et à communiquer de manière efficiente

• Maîtrise de l'anglais (min. niveau B2 à l'écrit et à l'oral). Une connaissance opérationnelle du français (env. niveau B1) constitue un avantage pour les interactions informelles quotidiennes et pour la participation aux activités d'enseignement

Taux d'activité : 80-100%

Lieu de travail: Sion, télétravail possible

Entrée en fonction: 1er février 2026 ou à convenir

Durée du contrat : 24 mois
