Software Engineer & Business Development
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are a deep-tech quantum sensing company commercializing scanning NV (nitrogen-vacancy) microscopy instrumentation and quantum sensing software. We are looking for an exceptional candidate who combines deep technical expertise in magnetization reconstruction and inverse problem algorithms with the commercial drive and cultural fluency to grow our presence across the Asia-Pacific market.
This is a high-impact, cross-functional role sitting at the intersection of scientific algorithm development and commercialization. The successful candidate will contribute directly to our product Magma, a proprietary data analysis platform for quantum scanning microscopy, while also identifying and cultivating commercial opportunities with research institutes and industry partners across Asia.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Software development: Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of Magma, our proprietary data analysis software for quantum scanning microscopy, including algorithm design, user interface, and documentation.
- Inverse problem algorithms: Develop andapply inverse problem theory and numerical methods to magnetization reconstruction challenges in SNVM data pipelines.
- Business development: Identify and develop business opportunities in the Asia-Pacific market, working directly with academic laboratories, semiconductor companies, and research institutes.
- Technical communication: Serve as a technical liaison — communicating complex quantum sensing capabilities clearly to both scientific and non-scientific stakeholders in English and Mandarin Chinese.
- Instrument operation: Operate and optimize scanning NV microscope systems; troubleshoot and improve measurement workflows.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: PhD in Physics (mandatory), with a strong foundation in quantum sensing, quantum optics, or condensed matter physics. Direct, hands-on experience with commercial scanning NV technology is required — candidates with experience exclusively in academic prototype systems or other scanning probe techniques will not be considered for this role.
- Commercial SNVM experience: Demonstrated, first-hand experience operating and deploying commercial scanning NV microscopy systems (e.g., QZabre, Qnami, or equivalent commercial platforms) in a production, industrial, or customer-facing context. Experience limited to in-house academic NV setups does not satisfy this requirement.
- Magnetization reconstruction & inverse problem theory: Demonstrated proficiency in inverse problem theory and its direct application to magnetization reconstruction from scanning NV data is mandatory. This includes hands-on experience with regularization methods (e.g., Tikhonov, total variation), Fourier-space inversion techniques, and uncertainty quantification in SNVM data pipelines. Prior work on current reconstruction, stray field inversion, or equivalent ill-posed magnetic imaging problems is required and must be documentable through publications or professional project references.
- Python & software: Strong Python programming skills, experience with GUI development in Python (e.g., PyQt, PySide).
- Magnetism expertise: Deep and broad knowledge of magnetism, spanning ferromagnetism, antiferromagnetism, spin textures (e.g., skyrmions, domain walls), and thin-film magnetic materials, particularly as relevant to SNVM applications.
- Bilingual fluency & Asia-Pacific travel: Full, native-level fluency in both English and Mandarin Chinese (written and spoken) is mandatory — this is non-negotiable for customer-facing engagement across Asia-Pacific markets. The candidate must also be willing and able to travel regularly within the Asia-Pacific region (including China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, and Australia) for customer visits, instrument installations, conference representation, and partnership development. Estimated travel: 30–40% of working time.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience building or contributing to commercial software tools.
- Publications in developing inverse problem algorithms or in improving SNVM performance.
- Prior experience in a startup, deep-tech company, or technology commercialization context.
- Established network in the Asia-Pacific academic or industrial research community.
- Familiarity with grant writing or scientific proposal development.
WHAT WE OFFER
A rare opportunity to shape both the technical direction and market growth of a pioneering quantum sensing company. You will work at the frontier of quantum sensing — deploying world-class instrumentation with real customers, solving hard measurement problems, and opening new markets across the Asia-Pacific region — all within a fast-moving, internationally connected team.
- Competitive salary
- Flexible work location with travel support for Asia-Pacific business development
- Conference travel and publication support
- Access to state-of-the-art quantum sensing laboratory facilities
- Collaborative, international team with a strong publication and innovation track record
HOW TO APPLY
Please send your CV, a brief cover letter describing your relevant experience in SNVM, inverse problem algorithms, software development, and business development, and up to three representative publications or software projects to our hiring team. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
