As the premier supplier to our international banking client in Basel, Swisslinx are looking for a Virtualization and Datacentre System Engineer with strong automation experience to help our client improve operational efficiency.

Job description:

Responsibilities include:

  • Virtualization Platform: Managing platforms such as VMware (or similar), including troubleshooting, performance monitoring, capacity, and availability.
  • Automation: Drive the implementation of automation to streamline operations and improve efficiency. Maintain and troubleshoot existing automation and participate in proofs of concept.
  • Operational Stability: Monitor system performance and environmental conditions, identify and escalate issues, follow SOPs, and eventually participate in on-call rotations.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Work closely with senior engineers and team members, support other departments, and contribute to meetings, brainstorming, and knowledge sharing.
  • Data Center Operations: Assist with racking, stacking, and connecting devices (servers, network, storage) and coordinate cabling and hardware installations.
  • Storage & Backup Management: Support the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of storage solutions.
About the customer:

This is an initial 2-year contract with a strong likelihood to extend long-term (up to 5 years), based on project roadmaps, with a start date by April 2026.

As part of a diverse and experienced Datacentre team in Core Infrastructure, you will be responsible for managing the operation of data centers, virtualization platforms, storage, and backup solutions.

You will also take on an exploratory role, making the most of your automation skills by implementing new technologies and helping the bank drive innovative solutions.

In the highly secured financial industry, the team ensures a secure, stable, and reliable infrastructure that supports the organization's critical operations. The team is dedicated to continuous improvement, evaluating new technologies, and maintaining operational excellence to meet the highest standards of security and performance.

Requirements:

Required Skills:

  • 7+ years' experience as a Virtualization System Engineer
  • Experience with VMware or similar virtualization platforms
  • Strong knowledge of PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation
  • Proven experience implementing automation initiatives
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Solid understanding of data center operations (cabling, hardware installation, vendor coordination)
  • Fluency in English?
Nice to Have:
  • Knowledge of storage systems and backup solutions
  • Strong security awareness, especially in banking environments
  • Ability to identify and mitigate security risks
  • Familiarity with Grafana, GitHub, SharePoint, Splunk
  • Please note: Interviews are conducted via video call (two stages), however the role is 100% based in Switzerland.
