Senior Project Manager Digital Platforms, 80-100% (ID 1956)
The AO is a medically guided, not-for-profit organization, a global network of surgeons, and the world's leading education, innovation, and research organization specializing in the surgical treatment of trauma and musculoskeletal disorders. We are home to people from all over the world, from different backgrounds, with diverse talents and specialist areas. What binds us together is our passion for excellence, our dedication to our mission of improving patient care, and our understanding that we are stronger together: we are one AO.

You are the operational backbone of the team. You own the day-to-day coordination and continuous improvement of AO's learning technology platforms — the LMS, video platform, adaptive learning system, evaluation tools, digital asset management, and content management systems that together deliver education to surgeons worldwide. You keep these systems running reliably, manage vendor relationships, ensure integrations work, and identify opportunities to streamline and improve. You work closely with AO IT (who own infrastructure and security) and with Education Design project managers (who depend on your platforms to deliver their programs).
Run and improve the platform ecosystem:
- Coordinate operations across assigned platforms from the learning technology stack: Totara LMS, Kaltura, Area9, Bynder, Sitecore, Salesforce E&A, and related systems
- Ensure platform integration, data exchange, and SSO/authentication workflows function reliably
- Monitor platform performance, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate resolution with vendors and AO IT
- Maintain technical documentation for platform configurations, integrations, and operational procedures
- Identify and implement opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve the user experience
Manage vendor relationships and projects:
- Serve as the day-to-day contact for assigned platform vendors: SLA monitoring, sprint coordination, release management, and quality assurance
- Lead technical requirements gathering and solution design for platform enhancements and new integrations
- Support RFP processes and vendor evaluations when new tools are being considered
Enable Education Design delivery:
- Work with Education Design project managers to ensure platforms are configured and ready for program delivery
- Support the evaluation & assessment data workflow: ensuring event data is collected, structured, and accessible
- Support learning operations processes by contributing to standard operating procedures and operational handbooks for platform-related workflows
- Contribute to the progressive modernization of legacy integrations in collaboration with the Senior PM AI
- 5-8 years of experience in digital platform management, technical project management, or enterprise systems integration. A relevant degree is valued but not required; equivalent practical experience is equally accepted
- Experience managing complex environments with multiple SaaS platforms, custom integrations, and vendor relationships
- Technical aptitude: you understand APIs, data flows, and system architectures well enough to troubleshoot issues and specify requirements — you don't need to be a developer, but you can't be afraid of technical detail
- Experience with at least two of: LMS platforms (Totara, Moodle, Canvas), video platforms (Kaltura, Brightcove), CMS/DAM systems (Sitecore, Bynder), or evaluation/assessment systems
- Vendor management experience: contracts, SLAs, sprint planning, and holding external partners accountable
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities
- English fluency required; German is an advantage
Personal Attributes:
- You're reliable and thorough — when you own a platform, people trust it works
- You're a problem-solver who escalates when needed but resolves what you can independently
- You communicate clearly with both technical vendors and non-technical education colleagues
- You're comfortable with operational work and see continuous improvement as a craft, not a chore
- You're curious about where the technology is going — even if your day job is keeping current systems healthy
- An interesting and varied job in an exciting and innovative organization
- The opportunity to be part of a highly committed international team
- Modern infrastructure
- High degree of flexibility regarding working hours and location (depending on operational requirements)
- Generous pagacke of social benefits, including supplementary vacation days and pension scheme contributions
- Internal skills training opportunities and support for continued education
