(Senior) PLC Software Developer for welding machines (m/f/d)

In this newly created role, you will play a key part in transforming how we develop and deliver software for our advanced welding machines. As part of our strategy to strengthen in-house software expertise, you will be at the forefront of managing a growing system complexity and accelerating innovation. With your deep technical understanding of mechatronic systems, you will help build the smart, reliable, and high-performance software that powers our machinery and shapes the future of welding technology.
Your tasks:
- Develop robust PLC software for complex platform-based welding systems — from concept to deployment, including but not limited to temperature and process control, safety and protection, interface to operator and other equipment controllers, etc
- Partner with cross-functional teams to define and deliver cutting-edge solutions
- Take ownership of projects across the full development lifecycle
- Solve challenging technical problems to ensure software reliability and top-tier performance
- Shape the development approach by improving tools, methods, and internal standards
- Contribute your knowledge in code reviews and architectural discussions
- Help establish a strong internal software culture, reducing dependency on external partners
- Provide leadership and guidance to junior team members as required
Your profile:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar, or a technical apprenticeship with proven PLC software development training
- 5+ years of hands-on experience reading and interpreting PLC wiring diagrams, and building software for industrial systems or technical products
- Expertise in one or more programming languages such as C++, .NET, Python, JavaScript, or EN 61131 — and familiarity with embedded Linux systems
- Solid grasp of software architecture principles, clean code practices, CI/CD pipelines, and agile workflows
- Experience with digital communication protocols (e.g., OPC UA, REST APIs) and cybersecurity
- Experience evaluating alternative and replacement solutions for control and electrical components developed in cooperation with the electrical/electronic team; good knowledge of electronic lab equipment is required.
- Ability to generate clear, concise documentation for test plans/test results
- Ability to work with a cross-functional team (e.g., electrical, hardware, software, firmware, manufacturing, quality teams) as well as independently as the situation requires.
- Ability to evaluate and make recommendations on cost, reliability, and manufacturability challenges while maintaining aggressive development schedules
- Good command of English (spoken and written), any other language is a plus
- Valid Swiss work permit or EU citizenship
