Job Description:
As the Enterprise Data Architect (Data Mesh Specialist) at Sequoia Business Community, you will be a critical member of our data team, responsible for designing and implementing a Data Mesh architecture that transforms our data landscape. You will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure data is treated as a product and is made accessible, discoverable, and usable across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Mesh Architecture: Design and implement a Data Mesh architecture that supports the principles of domain-oriented data ownership, self-service data access, and decentralized data processing.
Data Mesh Governance: Develop and implement governance practices specific to Data Mesh, including domain data ownership, federated data ownership, and domain contracts.
Data Catalog: Create and maintain a Data Mesh-aware data catalog that allows teams to discover and understand available data sets while considering federated data ownership and data domains.
Domain-Driven Design (DDD): Implement DDD principles to define data domains, context maps, and data contracts, ensuring alignment with Data Mesh best practices.
Data Mesh Tools: Proficiency in tools and technologies commonly used in Data Mesh, such as Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, Confluent, Pulsar, and similar platforms for event-driven and decentralized data processing.
Data Quality and Observability: Develop monitoring and observability practices for Data Mesh, including data quality metrics and anomaly detection.
Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, data scientists, business analysts, and domain owners, to define data ownership, domain boundaries, and data contracts within a Data Mesh context.
Scalability: Architect data pipelines and systems that can scale with the growing needs of the organization within a Data Mesh framework, ensuring performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
Data Security: Implement data security and access controls tailored to a Data Mesh environment, accommodating federated data ownership and data domains.
Best Practices: Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and emerging technologies related to Data Mesh and ensure that our data architecture aligns with them.
Training and Mentoring: Provide guidance, training, and support to teams and individuals to ensure they understand and adhere to Data Mesh principles and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Management or a related field.
- Proven experience (10Y +) as an Enterprise Data Architect with a focus on Data Mesh (2Y +).
- Proven experience on fact-based/semantic modeling using Object Role Modeling (ORM) in the financial industry (7Y +)
- Strong knowledge of data modeling, data warehousing, ETL processes, databases, data lakes, and lake house.
- Proficiency in data governance, data cataloging, and metadata management within a Data Mesh context.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with statistical process control, linear and logistic regression implemented in R Studio, Python or SPSS.
- Knowledge of data security and compliance requirements in the context of Data Mesh.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and real-time data processing.
- Familiarity with domain-driven design (DDD) principles.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Problem-solving mindset and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional or DMBOK) are required.
- Relevant certifications (e.g. Certified Enterprise Architecture Professional or similar) are required
- Relevant certifications (e.g. Lean Six Sigma Master Blackbelt or similar) are required
- Relevant certifications (e.g. Certified Quality Business Analyst – Fellow and Certified Quality Software Professional – Fellow) are required
- Strong knowledge of: Togaf, Archimate, visual paradigm, Sparx EA, iServer 365
- Previous experience in insurances, banking, production environments, utilities or pharmaceuticals is required
